The history of Fenrir Inc. starts with the development of Sleipnir by Kashiwagi Yasuyuki. This page tells the story of Fenrir Inc. from the first release of Sleipnir in 2002 to the end of 2010.

Birth

The customize optimized Sleipnir was created in 2002 with the main intention of sharing an enjoyable time with many people through the development of freeware.

After the creation of Sleipnir he worked towards solving the problem [How can it be made easy to use?]. As a result, the customize optimized Sleipnir was awarded the 2002 Window Forest Prize.

After that, he continued to think about user efficiency, and made repeated updates. However, due to various circumstances, it reached a stage where development could not longer continue.

Rebirth

In order to bring back Sleipnir, he worked on redevelopment while working. However, he soon realized that he did not have enough development time, and so had to think of another way. It`s difficult by oneself, but as an organization, it is surely possibly to offer new updates in a short time.

The birth of Fenrir Inc.

On the 12th of October, the latest version to succeed Sleipnir 1.66 called Sleipnir 2.00 was announced. At the same time, the [Sleipnir x Excite] collaboration project with Excite began. The number of downloads for Sleipnir exceeded 1,000,000.

Mission

Announcement of the portable USB memory program: Portable Sleipnir. And thus the Sleipnir that can be used anywhere with the same settings was created.

Grani was announced to let all the users out there know that [The choice to change your browser] is available. Grani pushed forward a sweet design to the whole screen to emphasize how essential design is, even in software.

In addition to that, by collaborating with Google, the Google search engine was adopted as the default search engine for Sleipnir and Grani. Along with this, the Japanese search using the address search bar was newly updated.

In response to a remark made by a developer [I want to get in contact with more users creating freeware], the Developer`s Blog was started.

Even if the development environment changes from an individual to an organization, communication with users just like before was still something that was important. The thoughts of many developers with that same idea, made the creation of many plug-ins and skins possible.

Also during this year, as a new challenge for Fenrir Inc., we started the customizable portal site[pota].

Attack

Fenrir Inc. continued to grow as an organization, and took a futher leap forward with new challenges such as the [Global Site] and [iPhone].

Furthermore, [Sleipnir][Grani] were installed with a frame skin offering further design possibilities, and a dramatic improvement in performance.

Also during this year, through conversations with our users, we created the search optimized new start page [Sleipnir Start].

Evolution

iPhone application development started, with the creation of Inkiness [The program that can be used like a real memo pad] and Mosa [The 2 channel browser]. In addition to that, the Elegant Apps site that introduces only the best quality applications was opened.

We started to offer iPhone Apps with countless services to please users by starting joint development projects with iPhone Apps.

We challenged to make a collaboration browser that can be loved by many, which lead to a new fan base.

And then, the new file management system [FenrirFS] was proposed, and supported by many users, offering new possibilities.

NEXT

Smartphone can probably be called the invention that has rapidly evolved in response to the changes around us and continues to change our lifestyle.

Realizing the change in environment, Fenrir Inc. also decided to venture into smartphone development, and thus released Sleipnir Mobile. We are continuing to achieve to provide bookmark management and syncrhonization functions with artful designs and advanced technology with the unprecedented functional tabs and originality of FenrirFS.

And so finally, the beta version of Sleipnir 3 was released, and a move towards the next stage began.

16th, November, 2004 was the day when Sleipnir was lost, and also the day that gave the opportunity for the creation of Fenrir Inc. We treat this unforgettable day as an anniversary [16th, November], and for just one day a year, we look back at the first Sleipnir, and look at Fenrir in a different light. It is the day where the staff here, look back at, and talk about Sleipnir and Fenrir.
